The Singing Men of South East Texas (SMOSET) is one of six regional groups that make up the Singing Men of Texas (SMOT).
Our mission is to
- Glorify God through music,
- Proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, and
- Provide opportunities for Christian growth, inspiration, fellowship and mission service to our members.
SMOSET is composed primarily of Ministers of Music from Baptist Churches in the Southeastern part of Texas.
The group meets once each month (except December and Easter month) during the school year for an afternoon rehearsal and evening concert. The music spans the gamut of Christian music from choral classics to Southern Gospel to Contemporary Praise and Worship. Glorify the Lord whatever profession may be – lawyer, locksmith, etc.
As of the 2012-2013 season Jeff Nelson, Minister of Music at Clear Lake Baptist Church, and Michael Douglass, Minister of Music at First Baptist Church Coldspring became the new co-directors of SMOSET.
SMOT was founded in 1975 as a ministry of the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) Church Music Department. Today each of the six regional chapters ministers independently within their region of the state. The chapters cooperate on mission ventures and other activities from time to time.
