The Singing Men of South East Texas (SMOSET) is one of six regional groups that make up the Singing Men of Texas (SMOT).

Our mission is to

  • Glorify God through music,
  • Proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, and
  • Provide opportunities for Christian growth, inspiration, fellowship and mission service to our members.

SMOSET is composed primarily of Ministers of Music from JayBaptist Churches in the Southeastern part of Texas.

The group meets once each month (except December) for an afternoon rehearsal and evening concert. The music spans the gamut of Christian music from choral classics to Southern Gospel to Contemporary Praise and Worship.

Again for the 2007-2008 season, directing duties will be shared by Ron Davis, Associate Pastor at ron_davisFirst Baptist Church in Liberty and Jay Ghormley, who is currently seeking a ministry position.

SMOT was founded in 1975 as a ministry of the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) Church Music Department. Today each of the six regional chapters ministers independently within their region of the state. The chapters cooperate on mission ventures and other activities from time to time.
